Every working person looks for a recipe that is both delicious and quick to make. In this series, Quickies, we present recipes ideally suited for this class of our readers. The first one in this series is Rava Toast. It can be used both for snacking and dinner.
Ingredients (for 2 people):
- 4 tablespoons of rava (suji)
- 1 medium-sized onion, finely chopped
- 1 medium-sized capsicum, finely chopped
- Salt to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon of ginger-chilly paste
- 1 tablespoon of milk cream
- 2 tablespoons of curd
- 1 tablespoon of finely chopped coriander leaves
- Bread slices
- Ghee or butter for roasting
- Cheese
Method
Take rave in a bowl, and add the finely chopped onions and capsicum to it. Then add salt, ginger-chilly paste, and the finely chopped coriander leaves. Next, add milk cream, and curd to the bowl. Note that curd is optional in the stuffing and only milk cream can suffice. Now thoroughly mix all the ingredients. Let it rest for 10-15 minutes so that the rava thickens. Then stir and check, and if it appears to be too thick, add another spoonful of curd to the bowl and mix well. On the contrary, if it feels that the rava hasn’t thickened, add one spoonful of rava to the bowl and mix well.

Now, take a bread slice and spread about one and a half spoonfuls of the stuffing prepared on top of it (see the image above). Next, heat ghee or butter on a frying pan (tawa), and then place the bread slice on the pan with the side containing the stuffing facing down. On the top side of the bread, add ghee/butter, and roast both sides of the bread on a slow flame, alternating the pan-touching side every few minutes. Once both sides are roasted, take the bread slice on a plate and grate cheese on top of it. Serve it hot!
